| | NewsA Special Request Dear Alumni and Friends: First, thank you for your continued generosity toward RSE and the RSE Foundation. We apologize for this letter reaching you a few weeks later than usual. However, we received some important information that has required the RSE Alumni leadership to reprioritize our focus for 2012 and beyond. Specifically, we learned through the course of investigating potential renovation projects that the front porch at 1501 Sage Avenue is in need of replacement. Normally this letter is strictly our annual appeal for your tax-deductible donations to the RSE Foundation, which would be used to further endow our scholarships (Becker and Bergfield) and to increase the Foundation’s General Fund. The General Fund can be used by the RSE Foundation to finance projects such as the library restoration (completed in 2007) which are part of the educational function of the clubhouse. This fund can also be used to partially finance other physical repairs since all common areas of the house serve to fulfill residential, social and educational functions. This letter is a special appeal for donations to the RSE Foundation for use in funding the reconstruction of the front porch. Click on the headline to read the full letter. A Popular Annual RSE Tradition Continues Reported by Event Co-Chairs Michael Gruet ’12 and Marcus Zagorniak ‘14 On Thursday, December 1st, RSE continued a great annual tradition by hosting the always popular Holiday Banquet. The current members invited several of their professors and alumni to enjoy a terrific meal and lots of laughter. The festive theme of the evening was apparent as soon as guests opened the front door, as they could immediately view the well-lit, beautifully decorated and towering Christmas tree filling a corner of the Trophy Hall. When asked, What Does RSE Mean to You?, Bette Smith '44 recalls with appreciation, the great things RSE did for both her and her late husband, Hugh E. Smith '47. She writes, "Now that you ask, RSE no doubt helped my perfect husband of 54 years. He had wonderful parents but was an only child; an introvert who devoured books and didn't think he needed people other than his family." What does RSE mean to YOU? RSE Joins RPI Relief in Repairing the Damage Caused by Hurricane Irene Reported by Colin Foreman ’14 – RSE Philanthropy Chair On November 6th, 2011, five members of RSE joined the volunteer organization RPI Relief. The day’s task was simple; help the families whose lives have been turned upside down by Hurricane Irene and the subsequent flooding over two months before. We travelled by school bus to Schoharie, NY, about 30 minutes south west of Troy. We arrived at a local church, which has been utilized as volunteer headquarters since the disaster. Prior to the trip, many brothers had asked me what volunteer work would still need to be done, since the storm was over two months ago. What could there be left to do? This question was answered immediately as we entered the home we would be working in... All News |
