Holiday Banquet 2017 Continues a Great RSE Tradition

Holiday Banquet 2017 Continues a Great RSE TraditionThe popular RSE Holiday Banquet, which has been a December fixture at the RSE Clubhouse for over eighty years, was held again this past year on Thursday, December 7.

Keeping with the long-established tradition, the banquet was chaired by a member of the sophomore class.  Matthew Doan ’20 headed the event and he was assisted by classmates Austin Shoop ‘20 and Brendan Donnelly ‘20.  From the holiday decorations to the meal to the after-dinner speaker, these three planned a fantastic evening for the invited guests, Junior Members, and Alumni Members to enjoy. RSE Chef Adam Foti and his team prepared a wonderful dinner of chicken cordon bleu, stuffed shells and a delicious side of green beans. Prior to dinner, appetizers of mini hot dogs, cheese and crackers, and a charcuterie platter of assorted meats were enjoyed during the refreshment hour in the festively decorated Trophy Hall.

This year's event had the largest attendance in recent memory.  In addition to the substantial turnout of professors from the various schools and departments, Travis Apgar - the Assistant VP and Dean of Students; Meredith Bielaska - the Associate Dean, Greek Life Commons; and Father Ed Kacerguis of RPI’s Chapel and Cultural Center and the Rensselaer Newman Foundation were in attendance.

The guest speaker this year was Professor Frank Wright.  Professor Wright teaches the Introduction to Management class at the Lally School of Management.  His after-dinner talk was both interesting and entertaining.

We are pleased to report that some alumni were able to make it back to RSE for the evening.  Alumni Jeff Gorss ’66, Joe Spinazola ‘15, and Jeff Sitarski ’17 were in attendance.

Alumni are invited and encouraged to attend events such as the RSE Holiday Banquet in December and the Graduation Day Induction and Reception in May.  In addition to RPI’s Annual Reunion & Homecoming Weekend in the Fall, these two RSE exclusive events offer excellent opportunities to see the House and meet some of the current Junior Members carrying on the terrific RSE traditions.
