Remember When?

Date: 8/18/2010 to 9/30/2010
Thank you to Roger Whiteley '52 for sending us the following story about Saturnalia Weekend in Feb 1950...

He writes, "On Saturday afternoon before the dance, I participated in our Intra-fraternity ski race at Jiminy Peak. As I had no car, a fraternity brother (who shall remain nameless) volunteered to drive my date and I to and from Jiminy Peak so I could participate in the race and my date could admire my skill, After my date nearly froze to death standing in the snow for four hours waiting for me to race (I think I was the last one), we returned to the base lodge late in the day only to find my fraternity brother had left without us. There was only one car remaining in the parking lot, a Model A coupe with a rumble seat (you'll probably have to look that up). Fortunately the couple graciously offered to take us back to Troy, with the four of us crowded in the front and all the skis in the rumble seat.

My date and I arrived back at RSE about 9:00 PM and, being exhausted, promptly fell asleep on the sofa in front of the fire in the Living Room. We awoke about an hour later and being famished, ordered Pizza from the Volcano restaurant. It didn't arrive until an hour later and by then it was stone cold. We ate it anyway. It was so bad I couldn't eat Pizza for 40 years. We finally got to the dance about mid-night.

Despite this experience, my date agreed to marry me two years later and we have been married for 58 years. She was and is a real trooper."

We want to hear YOUR best stories from your RSE days. Click here to share them on the message board.
